Warwick GLOBE Seminar – Investment Contracts and the Reform of International Investment Law Towards Sustainability

Seminar on reforming international investment law for sustainability through investment contracts.

About

The Warwick GLOBE Seminar will focus on the reform of international investment law and arbitration, particularly the role of investment contracts. The discussion will analyze various contractual clauses to illustrate how these contracts can enhance the sustainability of foreign direct investment (FDI) and create a more balanced framework for international investment law and arbitration. The seminar will argue that these contractual provisions can lead to state-investor arbitration and enable states to present counterclaims in investment treaty arbitration, opening new pathways for sustainable development and addressing broader public policy issues in investor-state arbitration. Dr. Sondra Faccio, an Associate Professor of International Law at the University of Trento, will lead the seminar. With extensive expertise in international investment law and arbitration, Dr. Faccio has contributed to various academic and practical discussions in the field. Her current research focuses on the intersection of arms regulation and international investment law, particularly in the context of sustainability. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the speaker and discuss the implications of investment contracts on sustainable practices in international investment. Lunch will be provided for attendees, and those with dietary or access requirements are encouraged to reach out via email for accommodations.
