Le discours comme lieu de fabrication linguistique de la légitimité des organisations internationales (in French)

Exploration of linguistic discourse in legitimizing international organizations.

About

The seminar series titled 'Récits et légitimité des organisations internationales' aims to provide a multidisciplinary reflection on how international organizations narrate themselves, are narrated, and how their actions are justified, contested, or redefined through narratives. In the context of unprecedented challenges to the legitimacy of international organizations, the series posits that the narratives they produce, as well as those they endure, are central to the legitimization or delegitimization of multilateral action. By integrating perspectives from law, political science, linguistics, and information and communication sciences, this exploratory seminar series seeks to understand, through various disciplines, the role of narratives in the structuring, contestation, and contemporary reconfiguration of international organizations. The first seminar will take place on February 13, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00 at Campus Trotabas, featuring Célia Atzeni from Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3, who will analyze the linguistic discourse of the UN regarding violence against women. Subsequent seminars will cover topics such as the institutionalization of UN Women and the management of emergencies within the EU's internal market, featuring experts from various academic backgrounds. The series aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of the narratives that shape the legitimacy of international organizations in today's complex global landscape.
