Lauterpacht Centre Evening Lecture – 'The Abandoned Investor' (Prof. Christoph Schreuer)

Join Prof. Christoph Schreuer for a lecture on the evolving role of home States in investment arbitration.

About

The Lauterpacht Centre for International Law is hosting an evening lecture titled 'The Abandoned Investor' featuring Prof. Christoph Schreuer from the University of Vienna. This event is part of the Reflections on International Law lecture series and will take place on January 28, 2026, at 5:00 PM in the Berkowitz/Finley Lecture Hall. The lecture will explore the classical expectation that home States protect the interests of their investors through diplomatic means, and how recent trends in investment arbitration have shifted this dynamic. Prof. Schreuer will discuss how home States are increasingly taking positions that may be detrimental to their investors, as evidenced by interpretations of investment treaties and the termination of these agreements. Following the lecture, there will be a drinks reception in the Old Library, providing an opportunity for attendees to engage further with the speaker and other participants. The event is expected to attract legal professionals, scholars, and students interested in international investment law and its implications.
