About
The Arbitration and Mediation seminar at the International Law Institute (ILI) is designed to familiarize participants with alternative methods of dispute resolution (ADR). This comprehensive program is divided into two parts: the first part introduces the goals and techniques of mediation, while the second part focuses on the legal issues involved in international commercial arbitration. Throughout the seminar, participants will engage in practical skills development through lectures and hands-on exercises, ensuring a thorough understanding of the subject matter.
The seminar will cover a variety of topics, including the pros and cons of international ADR, the negotiation process, and the roles of advocates and litigants in mediation. Participants will also explore legal issues in international arbitration, such as national arbitration laws, treaties, and the arbitral process. The course is structured to provide a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, making it suitable for legal professionals seeking to enhance their expertise in arbitration and mediation.
Upon successful completion of the seminar, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, provided they attend all sessions and actively participate in discussions and exercises. The seminar is scheduled to take place in-person from May 25 to June 5, 2026, at the ILI venue in Washington, D.C., running daily from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM local time.
