Fairness and International Law: across Space and Time
A three-day workshop exploring fairness in international law for early-career researchers.
About
The Max Planck Fellow Group on ‘Fairness and International Law’ invites early-career researchers to participate in a workshop titled 'Fairness and International Law: Across Space and Time'. This event will take place in Kiel, Germany, from May 10 to May 12, 2026. The workshop aims to explore how international law can account for the legitimate interests of distant others and future generations. Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts related to various established and emerging areas, including climate and environmental law, human rights, peace and security, and digital governance.
The workshop will provide a platform for selected participants to present their draft papers, receive structured feedback from peers and senior scholars, and engage in discussions that will continue through post-workshop online sessions. The results of the workshop will be published in a working-paper series and will contribute to a subsequent academic conference. Accommodation expenses for all participants will be covered according to institutional policy.
This event is particularly aimed at PhD candidates and early postdoctoral researchers who are interested in the challenges of fairness in international law across different contexts and timeframes.
