Arbitrating Space-related Disputes (CUArb Space Arbitration Talks)

Explore international arbitration solutions for space-related disputes in this interactive lecture.

About

The event titled 'Arbitrating Space-related Disputes' will be held on 27 April 2026 at the Lauterpacht Center for International Law in Cambridge, United Kingdom. This lecture, presented by Subhiksh Vasudev, aims to address the growing complexities of dispute resolution in the rapidly evolving space economy, projected to reach USD 1.8 trillion by 2035. As private sector involvement in space exploration increases, so does the likelihood of cross-border contracts and associated disputes. Mr. Vasudev will discuss the limitations of the current legal framework, which is primarily based on five UN treaties that lack binding dispute resolution mechanisms for international disputes arising from space activities. He will examine existing case law and provide an empirical study of space-related disputes, proposing international arbitration as a viable solution for future conflicts. The session is designed to be interactive, encouraging participant engagement and discussion. With limited capacity, early registration is recommended. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during a dedicated Q&A segment following the lecture.
