82nd Biennial Conference of the International Law Association
The 82nd Biennial Conference of the International Law Association addresses contemporary challenges to international law.
About
The 82nd Biennial Conference of the International Law Association (ILA) will take place from August 17 to 21, 2026, in Vienna, Austria. This year's theme, 'Contours of International Law: Encounters and Evolutions,' reflects the pressing challenges facing the international legal system today. With over 80 years of United Nations efforts to ban the use of force, the erosion of international law has become increasingly evident. The conference aims to foster dialogue and cooperation among international lawyers to address these challenges and reconsider the resilience of existing norms.
Participants will engage in discussions about the evolving nature of international law, particularly in light of geopolitical shifts and new areas of concern such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and global health. The conference will provide a platform for legal professionals to explore how international law adapts to new realities and the roles of various actors in shaping its future. By bringing together experts and practitioners, the ILA conference seeks to promote a deeper understanding of the complexities and dynamics of international law.
Organized by the University of Vienna, this biennial event will not only highlight the historical legacies of international law but also encourage innovative thinking about its future. Attendees will have the opportunity to network, share insights, and collaborate on solutions to pressing global issues.
